I’m convinced there are some lessons that we have to learn over and over again, at least that’s the case for me. In my last couple of blogs I’ve shared with you how I’ve struggled to stay motivated. Well I can honestly tell you that is no longer the case. After months of feeling overwhelmed and slightly off course, I had a critical revelation – “follow your passion”.
When I look back over the course of my life and identify my professional successes, each of them was a result of me trusting my intuition and following my passion. It was never a situation that transpired from my plan, but something that resulted from me being led by that inaudible voice in my spirit.
Often times when things get loud in my life and I can’t figure out what to do, that’s when I get quiet and get back to the basics. For me, it involved making a list—yes, when everything else fails I really do get out a pencil and paper and make a list! Without thinking rationally or intellectually, I began to list the things that bring me joy. I asked myself what makes me happy, just simple things. For example, I’m the most happy when I’m out in nature, when I’m in the presence of children, when I’m around my family, when I’m able to write, when I’m facilitating a workshop or teaching people, etc. Once my list was complete (there ended up being about 15 things) I asked myself how often I do those things. I then made a decision to make sure I incorporate at least one of those things into my routine EVERY day.
The next thing I needed to do was to decide what I was going to remove from my life. In order for me to perform at my optimal level I need balance. I had to accept that I can’t do everything. I determined which things were most important to me. So, instead of trying to center my business and my life around those things I can make the most money, I shifted my focus to the activities I feel the most passionate about.
I made a commitment to follow my passion, regardless of whether or not it made any sense to my natural mind. I have to tell you, there are a few things I’m pursuing right now that have absolutely NOTHING to do with my initial goals and objectives, but are inspired by a secret desire I’ve kept close to my heart. (I will share those things in the months to come)
I can honestly say that I am really happy right now and every day I wake up with a sense of purpose. I’m motivated to start my day because I know it’s going to be filled with me doing something I love and something that brings me joy. So, when it’s all said and done-do what you’re passionate about and success and prosperity will follow.
What are YOU passionate about?
