Have you ever had an inkling to do something, but you didn’t know why? All you knew was you were supposed to do it. That has happened to me only a few times in my life, and even while it was happening I was able to recognize that I was on the brink of something life changing.
Well, the last time that happened to me was the end of last summer when I had an overwhelming desire to get certified as a fitness instructor. Yes, I’d always had a secret desire to become a fitness instructor, but only in that way that comes over you when you’re in the middle of a really fun class, or even when you’re on a good streak of working out. Still, I never thought anything of it – I just filed it under that “maybe one day” category in my mind.
I mentioned it to my favorite aerobics instructor at my gym that I was thinking about getting certified when I got in better shape. He immediately started encouraging me to do it right away and told me the steps to take. That scared me so I kept trying to find reasons not to do it. As I began to investigate it, I felt more compelled to do it right away. I really didn’t understand the urgency in my spirit, but I wanted to be obedient. If I have learned anything on this journey with God, I know when He is prompting me and I don’t need all the answers before I obey. I have enough faith to know it will be revealed at the appointed time. I registered for the classes, took my practical and written exam, and passed both tests with flying colors. As of November 2011 I am an official Aerobics Fitness Association of America (AFAA) Certified Group Exercise Instructor.
Prior to the new year God started showing me other pieces to this puzzle, and I’m now at a point where I realize even more so what my purpose is with this certification. I’ve already begun to revise my organizational mission to incorporate it into GVC, and you will see more of those changes in the coming weeks.
I have to say this experience has been a tremendous blessing to me and it’s blowing my mind every day. So, I wanted to share this with you as a way to encourage you to trust those inklings, and know that if God leads you to do something, just be obedient. He has a plan and he will reveal it in part as you need to know. But the key is to be obedient even when you don’t know how it’s going to work out. Trust His plan for your life and know that it’s all going to work out for your good!
Peace, Love, & Fitness!
